How to Deactivate Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 + and S20 Ultra

How to Deactivate Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 + and S20 Ultra

Smartphones are often packed with really annoying applications. Why do we say that? Because, they only take up space and we never use it. Sometimes, they just appear without notice and interrupt your work.

Bixby from Samsung is one of the applications that have been installed on many Samsung phones including Galaxy S20, S20 + and S20 Ultra.

The question is, how do you deactivate the application? That is precisely what we will learn in this “how to” guide. It doesn’t matter if you have a Galaxy S20 or S20 + or S20 Ultra. The method described here is the same for all three models.

But before we move on and explain the step-by-step guide, let’s learn what Bixby is and why removing it is a wise choice.

What is Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 + and S20 Ultra?

Bixby is a voice assistant developed at home by Samsung. Needless to say, Samsung intends to become a direct competitor to Google Voice Assistant and Amazon Alexa or Siri on the iPhone.

Although the effort was noble from a business standpoint, Bixby didn’t even impress anyone! Instead of helping people, it becomes a nuisance.

Hit by reality, Samsung has gradually rolled Bixby back into oblivion.

Why disable Bixby on Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 + and S20 Ultra?

Repeat! That becomes a nuisance. However, Samsung refused to launch the device without Bixby. Conversely, Samsung is generous enough to allow users to deactivate applications.

The problem with this application is that this application is integrated into the general actions that users normally do. For example, long pressing the side button does not display the power menu. Instead it will make Bixby appear!

Do you really want that to happen? Very annoying to say the least!

Okay, now that we know what Bixby is and why we have to delete it, the more pressing question is, “how to delete it?” This is the guide you want and remember; it works on all three models in the exact same way! Follow the steps.

Double Press and Formatting the Power Button

Step 1: Slide down from the notification bar and pull out the notification drawer. Find the ‘gear icon’ and tap on it.

Step 2: On the settings page that opens, select the option that says “Advanced Features.” Then select “Side Button.”

1

2

Step 3: On the Side Button settings page, in the ‘Double Press’ segment, you can set ‘Quick Launch Camera’ to default instead of ‘Open Bixby.’ You can also choose the ‘Open Application’ option and configure it to open the application you want by pressing the power button twice.

3

Step 4: In the ‘Press and Hold’ segment, the default chosen is ‘Build Bixby.’ Change to ‘Turn off the Menu.’

Step 5: Go back one step in “Advanced Features” and turn off “Bixby Routines,” which has been turned on by default.

There she is! You have successfully remapped the button!

Turn off ‘Hi Bixby’ Wake-Up

In all likelihood, Samsung made you configure the hotword ‘Hi Bixby’ to wake up your phone through voice activation. If you don’t want that as well, here the steps that you need to follow:

Step 1: On the home screen of your phone, swipe up from the bottom. This will pull out the App drawer. Go to the Samsung folder where you can find Bixby.

Step 2: Tap on Bixby app icon to pull up the app and now tap on the hamburger menu you see on the left top corner. It will open up an overlay menu.

4

5

Step 3: Tap the ‘gear’ icon that you see in the overlay menu to open the Bixby Voice Settings menu.

Step 4: Tap the option that says ‘Voice Wake-Up.’ This will issue a voice command menu.

6

Step 5: Turn off the ‘Wake With Hi, Bixby’ option.

7

That is all! You have successfully deactivated Bixby on your mobile.

Until you manually open the Bixby application, it won’t bother you. However, you cannot completely uninstall the application because it is a system application. Doing so will require a rooting device. You really don’t want to mess up your phone warranty and you don’t want to brick either, do you? Avoid doing that!
