How to adjust the blue light filter on your Samsung Galaxy phone

Whether you use your phone at night or only have sensitive eyes, the blue light filter on your Samsung Galaxy phone is a great way to instantly reduce the tension or discomfort you might feel when looking at your screen. Although you can treat it as a simple on / off switch, there are a number of settings that you should check.

How to turn on the blue light filter on your Galaxy phone

First things first, we want to make sure we are on the same page when it comes to knowing what your Galaxy phone’s blue light filter is.

Parts of your phone’s display use blue light to produce all the applications, games and videos that you consume. Studies show that blue light can be dangerous and disturb your eyes, which is why you might have trouble sleeping after using your cellphone right before going to sleep.

The blue light filter does exactly as the name suggests – filters blue light from the look of your cellphone so it is less continuous in your eyes. Activating this feature on your Galaxy phone is as easy as pie.

  1. Swipe down from the home screen to access your notification tray.
  2. Swipe down again to see all of your Quick Settings.
  3. Tap the Blue light filter icon.

1

You will know that the blue light filter is activated when the icon turns blue, along with the screen you get a warmer / orangish hue (you can’t see it in this screenshot, but you will see it on your cellphone).
How to adjust the intensity of the blue light filter

You can expand your relationship with the blue light filter, but we recommend that you dive into the settings to improve your experience. The first setting that deserves to be tweaked is the intensity of the filter, allowing you to increase or decrease how strong it is.

  1. Swipe down from the home screen to access your notification tray.
  2. Swipe down again to see all of your Quick Settings.
  3. Hold the blue light filter icon until it takes you to the new settings page.

2

4. Tap the Turn on now switch if it’s not already activated.

5. Drag the Opacity slider to the right to increase the strength of the filter, drag left to reduce it.

3

The Opacity slider will be centered by default, and for many, this will be the perfect middle ground. Moving the slider more towards the left reduces the orange tint on your screen, making it more normal. However, doing this reduces the effectiveness of the filter. Dragging the slider to the right makes your screen look very orange, but also gives you as much protection as possible from the blue light of your phone.
How to set a schedule for a blue light filter

Turning on and off the blue light filter manually is fine, but there is a better way to solve the problem – set it on an automatic schedule!

  1. Swipe down from the home screen to access your notification tray.
  2. Swipe down again to see all of your Quick Settings.
  3. Hold the blue light filter icon until it takes you to the new settings page.

4

4. Tap Activate on schedule (By default, this is set to turn on / off according to sunset and sunrise).
5. You can stop here, or tap Custom schedule to choose your life and death time.

6. Tap Start time and End time to set the time you want.
5

Whatever option you choose, setting filters on all types of schedules is a great way to take advantage of features without having to constantly think about turning them on or off.
